The Isle of Zorda" zusammengeschnitten:
Vernian weitergeben.
You may have seen the article in the last BSJV on the discovery of a new book by Michel, a "novelization" of the 1921 movie on which he collaborated, completely rewritten from the Jules to parallel the movie script and more. It was given the new title, Avenger of the Dead.
Kieran O'Driscoll, whose contributions to the NAJVS Palik Series have been significant, decided to undertake a translation with critical material and full annotations. Since I have a good sized collection of ads, press, stills and so on, I'm helping Kieran collect images, as the publisher likes as many as possible. For instance, the book will have the American and French pressbooks, the American sheet music … if you look up Dracula's Daughter by Gary Rhodes on amazon.com you can see a preview of a volume in the series of scripts / novelilzations of old films that the publisher is doing, and the quantity of illustrations possible. This would be a book aimed at silent movie enthusiasts as much as Verne readers.
In addition, I have a book of my own coming out next year on Verne in the international silent cinema, with full documentation and analysis on Michel's filmmaking, in the context of his competitors as well. There'll be a long discussion of the Sandorf movie including its production and distribution there.
Given the global release of Sandorf, would like to have as many images documenting the German-language release: could be anything from a shot of posters to newspaper advertisements. The images need to be 300 dpi or more, jpg or tiff files preferable.
Sandorf was first released as a nine-part serial, then subsequently as a feature condensation; I think this pattern was generally true in other countries, tho in the US only the feature was shown (retitled The Isle of Zorda).
Many thanks for any help you may be able to give. We're just starting this now, aiming to finish at the end of next year or thereabouts.
