ENTERPRISE wird eingestellt

    Star Trek: Enterprise will come to an end following the airing of an as yet untitled series finale on May the 13th, 2005.


    UPN and Paramount today jointly announced the show's cancellation. "Star Trek has been an important part of UPN's history, and Enterprise has carried on the tradition of its predecessors with great distinction," UPN Entertainment president Dawn Ostroff said. "We'd like to thank Rick Berman, Brannon Braga and an incredibly talented cast for creating an engaging, new dimension to the Star Trek universe on UPN, and we look forward to working with them, and our partners at Paramount Network Television, on a send-off that salutes its contributions to The Network and satisfies its loyal viewers."


    Paramount Network Television president David Stapf added, "The creators, stars and crew of Star Trek: Enterprise ambitiously and proudly upheld the fine traditions of the Star Trek franchise. We are grateful for their contributions to the legacy of Trek and commend them on completing nearly 100 exciting, dramatic and visually stunning episodes. All of us at Paramount warmly bid goodbye to Enterprise, and we all look forward to a new chapter of this enduring franchise in the future."


    TrekToday sources report that CBS president Les Moonves himself yesterday reached the decision to pull the plug on Enterprise. Most Enterprise crew members only found out about their show's cancellation this morning.


    Enterprise only barely qualified for renewal a year ago, but was given a final chance by UPN to prove itself after Paramount agreed to drastically cut the show's license fee. The show underwent several major changes this year, including a move from Wednesday night to Friday and the appointment of new showrunner Manny Coto, but the most important thing didn't change - the show's low ratings. Last week, "Babel One" set a new series low for Enterprise, attracting just over 2.5 million viewers.


    No official details have yet been released for the final episode of the series, beyond the fact it will be written by Enterprise creators Rick Berman and Brannon Braga. Recently, Paramount was rumoured to be in negotiations with Jonathan Frakes (William T. Riker) and Marina Sirtis (Deanna Troi) for a guest appearance on the final episode (story), although Sirtis has since denied this (story).


    Although UPN has now officially decided to not bring back Enterprise for a fifth season, two fan campaigns are still working to try and change the network's mind. SaveEnterprise.com and the Enterprise Project have combined to form EnterpriseFans.com, an organisation trying to raise money to promote Enterprise with an ad in USA Today.

    Naja ...gaaanz so ist es ja nicht. Wenn die Mehrzahl der Fans nicht mehr einschaltet bzw. immer weniger, dann darf ein TV-Sender ruhig einen Schlußstrich ziehen. 4. Seasons ist immerhin 1. Season mehr als TOS :D
    Wobei die Gerüchte, das Marina Sirtis und Jonathan Frakes in der letzten Folge auftauchen, jetzt doch wie ein "weiterreichen der Fakel" wirkt. Ob endlich wieder was in der ST-Gegenwart erzählt? "Star Trek: Titan" würde mir gefalllen, aber ich denke das ist noch Zukunftsmusik.


    Vielleicht wird der neue ST-Film, der mit Sicherheit zum 40jährigen kommen wird, erfolgreiche, weil kein ST mehr im TV läuft... :cool:

    Es trudeln weiter Reaktion zu der Absetzung von STAR TREK: ENTERPRISE ein. So auch jetzt, wo wieder Meinungen von Personen, die mit dem Franchise verbunden waren oder geblieben sind, öffentlich gemacht wurden.


    The Lawrence Journal-World berichtet von der University of Kansas, die unter anderem Scott Bakula und Romanautor Kevin Dilmore besuchten.


    "ENTERPRISE ist vorbei. STAR TREK ist absolut nicht aus", so Dilmore zu der Zeitung, gegenüber der er von der Begeisterung erzählte als Kindheitsfan den Charakteren Worte in den Mund legen zu dürfen. Zwei Lehrer der Universität, James Gunn und Kij Johnson, haben ebenfalls STAR TREK Bücher veröffentlicht. Johnson, die an dem STAR TREK Roman Drangon's Honor beteiligt war, stellte die Bedeutung der Rolle der Frauen in der originalen Serie heraus, die kleinen Mädchen wie ihr die Möglichkeit gab, sich vorzustellen eine Rolle in einer technisierten Zukunkft zu spielen, von denen Jungen immer träumen sollten.


    Ein anderer TREK Autor, Peter David sagte auf seiner Website, dass schlaue Menschen zuvor den Tod von Sitcoms, Western und auch von STAR TREK selbst nach der ersten Absetzung 1969 vorausgesagt. "STAR TREK ist öfter gestorben als Jean Gray und ist jedes mal wie Phoenix wieder aufgestiegen", stellte er in Bezug auf den X-Men Charakter fest, der in diesem Franchise in mehreren Version wiederbelebt wurde. "Ich denke, dass eine Star Trek Serie, die ihre Zuschauer niemals völlig erreicht hat, tot ist. Aber wenn sie eine neue Serie erschaffen, denke ich die Zuschauer werden zurückkehren und es wenigsten versuchen."


    VRRRM hat einen Zusammenschnitt von Kommentaren der ehemaligen STAR TREK Darsteller Nana Visitor, LeVar Burton, Vaughn Armstrong und Denise Crosby.


    "Ich denke das Franchise hat Probleme", so Visitor und brachte ihre Meinung zum Ausdruck, dass sich das Franchise ändern müsse. Burton sagte: "Man kann nicht von sich selbst erwarten so lange kreativ zu sein ohne sich selbst zu wiederholen. Es wird passieren. Sobald man sich selbst wiederholt passiert es leicht, dass man den Respekt und die Aufmerksamkeit der Leute verliert."


    "Ich wäre verwundert, wenn sie jetzt gleich eine neue Serie nachlegen würde", sagte Denise Crosby. "Ich denke es wäre wahrscheinlich für alle von Vorteil, wenn man eine kleine Pause macht und dann sieht, was passiert." Als selbst beroffener sagte Vaughn Armstrong: "Ich denke, wenn sie jetzt eine Pause machen und eventuell einen Kinofilm... vielleicht noch eine Zeichentrickserie für die Kinder, um sie dazu zu kriegen mehr sehen zu wollen, dann könnte es später besser aussehen. Aber ich glaube nicht, dass all dieses für immer sterben wird."

    Ich bin da nicht wirklich traurig drum. Die StarTrek-TV-Kuh wurde jetzt 18 Jahre am Stück gemolken, teilweise mit 2 Serien gleichzeitig. Irgendwann muss echt mal wieder Schluss sein.


    Mich haben bereits die Episoden ab Season 4 von Star Trek entfernen lassen (ich war früher ein heftiger Fan inkl. Con-Besuchen) und ENT hat mich auch nur in der ersten Season interessiert. Dieses Universum ist einfach ausgelutscht...


    Bleibt nur zu hoffen, dass bis auf weiteres keine Nachfolgerserie entsteht. Mit dieser Crew könnte ich mir allerdings auch abendfüllende Filme vorstellen, was in einem 3-4 Jahresturnus auch Sinn machen könnte.
